What women only actually means on the floor

Plenty of salons say they welcome everyone. Fewer are built so that the whole floor belongs to whoever is in the chair. The difference shows up in small things that are difficult to advertise and immediately obvious once you are inside.

You can take things off

A dupatta, a scarf, a hijab. Hair cannot be assessed properly through fabric, and no one should have to choose between a good consultation and their own comfort. On a women-only floor that question never comes up.

Nobody is waiting behind you

Colour takes the time it takes. Bridal takes four hours. Treatments cannot be rushed without showing it in the result. A room without an audience is a room where a long appointment does not feel like an imposition.

The conversation is different

Thinning, post-partum shedding, scalp conditions, the reason someone wants their hair back to how it was before — these come up constantly and they are not small talk. They are the information that determines what treatment is appropriate. People say them more readily in a room where they are not overheard.
